Dart Minds Inspired is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Cayman Islands Robotics team as it travels to Mexico City to participate in the FIRST Global Challenge, an Olympics modeled robotics event.
FIRST Global is a non-for-profit organiszation focused on helping nations build the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills needed to work on global challenges together. The Challenge Participating teams representing more than 189 nations across the world are tasked with assembling their own robots to compete in competitions. Major sponsors of First Global include FEDEX and the Bezos Family Foundation.
The inaugural 2018 Cayman Islands Robotics team includes Cayman Prep & High School student Adrian Phillips- Hernaez, St. Ignatius Catholic School student Ethan Cronier and Cayman International School student Joe Allom-Perez. These students were selected for their commitment to, and recognition in STEM learning, as well as their passion for engineering, mechanics and robotics.
St. Ignatius physics teacher Von Abrantes is the technical mentor for the team and will assist the students with the construction and programming of the robot.
“It’s an honour to lead the first Cayman team to the Global Challenge,” says Von Abrantes.
Dart Education Programmes Manager Glenda McTaggart is the Cayman Islands Robotics team manager.
“We are thrilled to see some of Cayman’s brightest minds compete in the Challenge,” says McTaggart. “Dart is committed to STEM education through our Minds Inspired educational programmes and events, and supports FIRST Global’s mission to inspire science and technology leadership and innovation in young people.”
The 2019 Cayman team will be chosen through a competition open to all students from all schools in the Cayman Islands.
